What Should You NOT Put Into a Garbage Disposal?
Anything that’s too hard to break down will cause an impeller lock. Most shells are too hard or have additional membranes that can wind around the internal parts, and cause your garbage disposal not to work. Bones from animals like cows or pigs are also too hard to be broken down, most often resulting in a clogged garbage disposal.
Egg shells should not be put in. Although they are not the problem, the membrane of the egg shell is. It sticks to your drain and holds onto what comes down the pipes.
Rice, pasta and breads are notorious for expanding the longer they sit in water, so they’re best kept away from garbage disposals. This usually results in clogged plumbing.
